Thanks to John Daly, who's leading the charge for our new chapter of ChristianRunners here in the St. Louis area!
A quick bio on John...
John grew up in Rutland, Vermont amidst the verdant pastures and ubiquitous cows. (And since the late 1970's Vermont now has more people than cows.) However, he's quick to point out there's one thing he grew up without; namely, without hearing the Gospel. "It wasn't until I left Vermont that I actually heard about what Christ has done for sinners," he says. While Vermont is a beautiful state, its inhabitants are living in spiritual darkness. So he encourages churches to prayerfully consider Vermont when deciding upon a summer or fall mission trip.
In regards to running, John was a four-time Vermont state champion and still holds the mile record (4:16) that was set in 1986. He was a three-time Division II All-American in college at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau. However, it's been only recently that he has seriously started training again as he fast approaches the master's division (September 2008). His goal is to break 16 minutes in the 5k in order to show the younger guys that some of the older fellas aren't "going away quietly."
Why he's joining Christian Runners? "I've always believed that what we most enjoy in life is truly a passion given by God. He has implanted in me a passion to run and a passion to see Him glorified. For me there is no better combination than to exalt His Name among the nations through Christian Runners.
